LDS General Confrence

Twice a year, modern-day prophets and apostles gather at the Conference Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, to speak the words of the Lord. The messages, which are broadcast to the world, are prepared under the guidance of the Holy Ghost and are directed to every person, in every country, in every circumstance.

I LOVE it when confrence comes around. It is such a GREAT TIME to listen to so many messages that are for everyone. I LOVE getting the SPIRITUAL BOOST and being taught.

Something for Everyone
Though many people who listen to general conference are already members of the Church, modern methods of communication have increased accessibility of the messages to those who are not yet members.“So we must speak to those who know us very well and those who know us not at all,” Elder Holland says. “Within the Church alone we must speak to the children, the youth and young adults, the middle-aged, and the elderly. We must speak to families and parents and children at home even as we speak to those who are not married, without children, and perhaps very far from home. …“Whatever form they take,” Elder Holland says, “these conference messages ‘proclaim liberty to the captives’ (Isaiah 61:1) and declare ‘the unsearchable riches of Christ’ (Ephesians 3:8). In the wide variety of sermons given is the assumption that there will be something for everyone.”

“We always want our teaching in general conference to be as generous and open-armed as Christ taught originally, remembering as we do the discipline that was always inherent in His messages,” Elder Holland says.

I also LOVE that our family can sit at home together all snuggled up in our Jammies, spending this time together and enjoy these messages. We have chosen not to have cable, so we get to re-arrange our furniture so that we can watch it on our computer. The kids think its real fun to do that. I let the girls play with toys on the floor, color, etc. as long as they talk quietly so we can all enjoy the messages.

Listen with Anxious Ears and Hearts

President Boyd K. Packer of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles says, speaking of general conference, that “the servants of the Lord will counsel us. You may listen with anxious ears and hearts, or you may turn that counsel aside. … What you shall gain will depend not so much upon their preparation of the messages as upon your preparation for them.http://lds.org/study/prophets-speak-today/unto-all-the-world/general-conference-has-something-for-you-b?lang=eng

Growing up my Mom always made cinnamon rolls on confrence morning. This is my Tradition Iam passing on down and doing with our own Family.I really love my moms recipe, but Here is the Recipe Iam trying out this weekend:
Gooey cinnamon buns
the buns:
1/4 c warm water (around 110 degrees)
1/3 c sugar
1 packet of yeast (2 1/4 t if you don't use packets)
3/4 c milk
4 T butter, melted
1 egg and a yolk
1 t salt
3 c Better Batter flour
Combine the warm water, sugar and yeast in a small bowl and let proof for 5 minutes. Beat together the milk, butter, eggs, salt and yeast mixture. Stir in the flour mix a cup at a time. The dough will be pretty thick.
For the cinnamon filling:
2/3 c brown sugar
1 T cinnamon
4 T butter, melted
Divide the dough in half. Set one half aside, and roll out the other half on a well floured surface. Don't roll too thin, about 1/3" is good. Half an inch is ok too. Brush the top with butter, and sprinkle cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly over the top. Roll up, and cut with a sharp knife into 3/4"-1" slices. Repeat with the other dough half.
For the topping:
1/4 c brown sugar
3 T butter
3 T honey
1 T corn syrup
Combine the ingredients in a small bowl, and microwave until butter is melted. Stir to combine, and pour into the bottom of a 13x9 glass pan.
Place the sliced cinnamon rolls on top of the sticky sauce, spaced evenly. Cover with plastic wrap and set in a warm place to rise for about 45 minutes. Preheat the oven to 375 while the rolls are rising. Bake 30-40 minutes until topping is bubbling around the sides and the tops are brown. Turn out onto a plate and try not to eat them all at once. Makes about 20.

Hopefully they will turn out as good as they look and sound!lets hope they dont send me into a sleeping comma!

Our house will be smelling good, and I will be in my comfy jammies, cuddled up on the couch , ready to enjoy the day with my family and being spiritaully fed.

  1. And this year we are breaking tradition!! Instead we are celebrating harvest by making french fries from the newly harvested, most wonderful, Idaho Russett Burbank potatoes. But I bet we go back to cinamon rolls come April:)
